Improving Your Site’s SEO Performance: Off-Site Activities

SEO is never just a one-time thing. You need to continue producing high quality content and improving your site in order to stay at the top of search results for the keywords you are after.

SEO is also not a one-sided campaign. In order to truly succeed, you need to combine on-site efforts with off-site activities.

Guest Post at Top Blogs of the Industry

One of the best ways to gain a nice boost in SEO performance through off-site activities is by guest posting for other authoritative blogs in the industry.

You don’t have to write a promotional article; in fact, you shouldn’t.

Boost your SEO Performance

Write an article that the users of the host blog will certainly enjoy. Add sufficient amount of information to keep users engaged and interested.

You can add one or two backlinks in the article as well as mention the products or services you are offering, but never try to hard-sell your products directly.

On the other hand, you should also invite other bloggers and top writers to write a guest post for your site. This will help you with a number of things, including:

Directory Listings and Online Forums

When it comes to posting your site’s URL on directory listings, you simply need to be very selective.

Yes, there are a lot of web services that guarantees thousands of backlinks from multiple directory sites.

This, however, is not always the best approach.

Instead of pursuing thousands of random backlinks, focus your efforts on finding online directories that are relevant.

Post your link with sufficient description and make sure the listings are just as informational as your articles.

Online forums are a bit more difficult to deal with. You need to be willing to maintain your post, reply to other users and even run an entire thread specifically for promoting your site.

A good way to start is by posting general articles related to your business with a link to your website, similar to what you would do when you guest-post on another blog.

Review Your Links Profile

Getting as many backlinks are possible is just the first half of the equation. Next, you need to review your links profile and maintain it properly.

Remove links that are not relevant and add more quality backlinks to maintain your site’s SEO performance.

You should also check your site’s internal links.

Dead or broken URLs can reduce your site’s search engine rankings rather quickly, so be sure to deal with them as soon as you find them.

Scan for URLs that are not SEO friendly and check external links for similar issues.

  1. Do the Directory Submission still affect to SEO results ? And do those links still valuable at this time ?

  2. Hi, Nisha,

You’re absolutely right – SEO is not a once and done thing, that’s for sure. It takes a lot of hard work, and it’s a layering process with regard to understanding and achieving results.

Consistency is so important, and of course, it all takes time to climb in the search engines. Keeping up to date with who links to you is important I agree, and I like Google Webmaster Tools a lot. I probably check once per week.

Thanks for the thought-provoking post, Nisha, and hope you have a lovely evening.

    Take Care,
    – Carol 🙂

    Hi Vishal,

Yes blog commenting, forum marketing, social media promotion are all great tool to ensure visibility and improve SEO. From the very first day I started blogging I have been taking part in these community building exercises.

Thanks for visiting. Have a great weekend 🙂

  9. Hi Nisha
I completely agree with your guest post point. After doing guest blogging on some authority sites, I gained some subscribers also. But, some of these sites have a no-follow attribute in guest author’s web page links. In this way, we don’t get the backlinks from these sites.
As you said, finding relevant directories are important. Can you tell me some directories which come under “self-improvement” category?

  10. Very good & informative article for improving site’s SEO performance. I agree with guest posting technique.
I think Blog commenting, & question answer site like Quora is also very helpful to improve the blog/website performance. What do you say about that?

  11. I completely agree with Nisha.. Just trying to boost a website with thousands of backlinks is not the solution. A website requires good quality authoritative and relevant links to rank with other on page and social media search engine optimization techniques.
