Make money blogging

5 practical tips for setting your goals to make money blogging

This is a guest post by my colleague Mi Muba from Be A Money Blogger. He earlier contributed more than 1,000 posts in two UK-based popular blogs as ghost writer.

The ultimate aim of every blogger is money making. A thin minority of bloggers don’t care either they earn money or not but majority of them want to necessarily make at least a few bucks to pay monthly hosting fee of their blog.

It is also a fact that 97 per cent bloggers hardly earn 100 bucks per month. It means only 3 per cent bloggers grabbed the entire blogging income.

It is not an income disparity because high-earning bloggers earn big money with a proper strategy. But those who miss their share are actually responsible for this disparity.

Usually bloggers fail to earn huge money because they don’t have clear objectives of their venture. They welcome money but never hunt it. This is the main reason they remain part of the huge majority of those who earn peanuts.

A blogger needs to be clear in his goals of make money blogging. It is necessary to have quantified blogging objectives.

What are main goals of make money blogging?

Setting objectives is not a philosophy. It is an activity like you set your goal of reaching home from your workplace. So you need to be clear in your make money blogging objectives, as defined below.

Make money blogging

  1. Doing a business

Blogging means an activity to share your views online. But make money blogging itself is a business. You start a blog to earn money and for that you sell something on it. Either it is third party products or your own but ultimately you sell it. So there must be clarity in business objective of your money blog. You must have clear answer of following points:

  • What to sell. Your own products and services or third party products with pay per click (PPC) or cost per action (CPA) basis.
  • Whom to sell: You must define the age group, geographical background, area of interest and income group of your target audience
  • How to sell: Through banner ads, reviews, referrals or simply inserting links in anchor text of your contents
  1. Quitting your day job

A huge number of bloggers start blogging to quit their day job. How many of them succeed in this objective is not clear but those who start earning obviously sooner or later quit their day job. But their count is very limited. Even to quit you day job you need to have answer of following questions:

  • How long to manage you blog and day job both
  • Will you quit your day job just after earning from blog equal to your monthly salary or your target is more than this.
  • How to manage your job while not or least affecting your day job?
  1. Support your monthly income

This is the blogging objective of those who don’t want to quit their day job but want to add in their monthly income. It may be because of low salary in day job or to pay extra bills and meet expenses of child education and health care. Here again you need to be clear on:

  • How do you get the target of minimum income from your blog?
  • Do you have the skills to make money blogging or you will learn first and then achieve your goal?
  1. As a side business

It means supporting your already running business to face the growing competition. You use blogging as a marketing tool to grow your business. For this purpose you need to have a plan specifying what you need to do that supports your business objectives. Your main objective is usually to expand your niche market and have direct access to it for more sales.

    5. More money for more fun

If you are well established financially even then it is wise to make money blogging instead of just blogging for inner satisfaction or becoming famous. If you aim to earn money with your blog you will be able to assess your performance in quantified terms.

Else you will just be rejoicing on huge amount of satisfaction you derive from blogging but won’t prove your level of success in exact terms.

But the biggest benefit of earning money with your blog is more pleasures which you can get with extra money. So the best strategy is to make your basic goal of earning money and in addition to it, you can also achieve your secondary objectives of creating your community or sharing your views with them.

Conclusion

So these are the five common goal-setting tips to make money blogging like a pro with clarity of thoughts. If you are clear on your goals you can develop a proper strategy to achieve them. Without knowing how far your destination is how can you decide which source of transportation you should achieve to reach there?

  1. Isn’t it interesting that 97% of people won’t even make $100 monthly from their blogs? You have to think, what really separates these people from the ones earning a full time living?

It’s hard to know for sure, but when I think back to when I was part of that 97%, it came down to treating the blog as a blog rather than a business. As soon as I started thinking of my blog as a business rather than just a hobby, I began taking the action necessary to actually make a good amount of money from it. I learned not only how to write better, but how to get the content to convert into buyers. It was a massive transformation that was only possible due to my newfound mindset.

    Good post!

  9. Hi Mi Muba, and welcome to Nisha’s blog as her guest this time 🙂

Good to see the Ahaians in full force here, all here to cheer you, including me!

Coming to the post, although I am not a money blogger exactly, but I am learning to be one with the company of good friend’s like you and others, so these tips are useful for me.

If you wish to make money from your blog, your aim should be very clear, regarding what all you want to do and how you wish to achieve that aim. Yes, I’ve seen many bloggers quit their jobs only to realize their mistake later, because they are in a rush to make money fast and when they fail, they quit. Thus, they lose their job, as well their blog.

So, it’s always wiser to work part time and also to start your blogs on a free platform and weigh out first, whether blogging is the direction you want to take to earn money, then move further to a paid platform and quit your job once you see some returns coming.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead, both of you. 🙂

BTW – The title says there are 5 tips, but I just see 4? Or perhaps the last section – More Fun…was supposed to be No.5, so you can edit and format that Nisha. 🙂

  10. Hi Nisha,
glad to see Mi Muba here,
    he’s a wonderful writer.

I came here from Aha-Now blog community.

    You stated some important points.
With so many websites out there, you need to take blogging as a business, if you want to make money from it.
You need a plan, a strategy, different monetization methods,
and a support of a job if your income is not steady and decent yet.

Plus, you need time and hard work to establish your name around blogosphere.

Thanks for sharing this great post. Mi and Nisha.
    Have a great day!

  11. Hi Nisha and Mi Muba,

It’s an interesting article, I’ll prefer giving it a title “Complete Plan To Be A Money Blogger” %97 of people ain’t able to make $100 per month from their blog, but the truth is my your last month earning can’t be compared to this months earning, and thats improvingment.

Thanks for sharing this great tip with us.

  12. Hello,

Awesome tips all in once place. I guess blogging is perfect part time job. I doesn’t need a specific time to spent just we can call it as flexible job.

    Thanks

  13. Good points Mi Muba, We often lose site of the objectives of our blog, at least I do sometimes. I get caught up in ideas and responding to others (which is important too!) but we can’t lose site of our business and what we’re trying to accomplish either.

Trouble is most folks realize these objectives long after they create their blogs, so this is a good read for anyone starting out.

    Blessings,
    Liz

  14. Hi Mi Muba,

Great to see you here on Nisha’s blog! Excellent advice you have given to bloggers. We each have to decide to set up our own individual goals to make money with our blog. We have to factor in how much time we have, how much money to invest, and so on.

I guess it came easy for me because I was always an entrepreneur. I still run my off-line consulting business, but much more sparingly these days because now my internet marketing business is deeming more attention.

Before I had made this business decision, I did have to weigh the ebbs and tides of money coming in. It’s not like a steady salary lol. I started blogging, and from there got into product creation. I use my blog in conjunction with marketing ads. It has gained more mileage as I followed my plan to reach my goals.

I deem a blog as an important “business card” sometimes because when I’m target marketing, I do so to people that don’t know me. The first thing they do is go to my blog for social proof.

On my blog itself, I only sell my own products. So my branding is in place. Yes, people can make money with their blog but must have a marketing plan.

    Thanks for your excellent advice,

    -Donna

  16. Hi Mi Muba,

Nice to see you here at Nisha’s blog.

This is a very informative post about making money blogging. When I started my blog, I didn’t have the money making idea in mind. I started with the idea of promoting my Network Marketing business through my blog and for branding myself. But I started promoting some affiliate products which made me little money not much but I am glad I read these practical tips and I just need to shift my mindset to making money and put a plan and set the goals.

Thanks Mi Muba for sharing these tips with us. You really got me thinking now. Enjoy the rest of your week.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat

  17. Hi Muba,

    Glad to see you here.:)
You always give amazing tips about money making. Like you said that few percent of people grab the whole money because most of bloggers don’t know what they are doing and how to do it? Bloggers should know as to whom they have to sell their product or how?
Quitting the day job is the most common thing people do but when they don’t get success they get depressed. They need to have some plans.
    Thanks for writing this post.
    Enjoy your day.:)
    ~Ravi

  18. Hi Mi Muba,
Definitely making money online is everyone’s dream even though some may not openly admit it. But how far a person will succeed depends on various aspects. Still I feel quitting the day job to make money blogging is not a viable solution for all.

  19. Hi Mi Muba,
I am new to blogging and all the four points you have stated are very useful. I am at very initial stage to start the blogging and the points are very useful for me. Thanks for updating me.

  20. Hi,

Some very valid and interesting points shared here. We all want to taste success in shortest span of time. No matter how lucrative this sound but practically it is very hard to reach. One thing that most bloggers miss out on is setting up strict deadlines. They take it too easy at times. Bloggers must have a clear strategy and proper focus. Every step must be backed up by some logical reasoning. In this field you grow with your mistakes and experience therefore you need to have a good amount of patience. Very good article sir, loved it!

  21. Thanks for the feedback Manik.

  22. I take blogging as a serious business that can create huge difference.
Yups sometime it really very difficult to generate income from a new blog.
But blogging a all about patience and passion.
You doing a great job by motivating many lives:
    Cheers 🙂

  23. Hi Muba!

Thanks for this wonderful post. Once again a great and inspirational as you always do like on your blog too.

I think everyone has some aims set to do later in their lives. Some are blessed already with money while someone have god gifted power instead of the money and I think they can do really better than those who have money already.

    Thanks, keep writing!

  24. Hi Nisha,

I agree with all your points.
Making money always a tough job, Before doing anything, we have to be very clear about our goal and long term plan.
There are many ways to earn money and resources like Giving support, Writing reviews, Advertisements, affiliate marketing etc.

  27. Hi Ravi,

Thanks for coming by here and sharing your thoughts. There is no doubt that Muba is an excellent writer and he has explained here so well about making money online.

We should target the right audience and achieve their trust before selling any product to them. Otherwise, we can’t get success in our goal to make money.

You are so right the people should have proper plan/goal before quitting their full time job.

Thanks again for stopping by. Enjoy your week ahead!

  28. I take blog as a serious business that can create huge difference.
Yups sometime it really very difficult to generate income from a new blog. One thing that most bloggers miss out on is setting up strict deadlines. They take it too easy at times. Bloggers must have a clear strategy and proper focus. Every step must be backed up by some logical reasoning.

  29. well written post in great details. Quite true, the priority of most bloggers including me is to make money from my blog. Still struggling to make that possible. with the few tips you’ve listed here, I’m ready to implement them and see how well it works for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

  30. Practical points right there.

We always see people rushing into decisions thinking that as soon as they have a blog, the money keeps coming in, but in reality it doesn’t really start that way. At least not for many.

Got to do the pros and cons before making a final decision.

  31. Hi Mi Muba,

Going to the post, albeit I am not a cash blogger precisely, however I am figuring out how to be unified with the organization of great companion’s similar to you and others, so these tips are valuable for me.

On the off chance that you wish to profit from your online journal, your point ought to be clear, in regards to what all you need to do and how you wish to attain to that point. Yes, I’ve seen numerous bloggers stopped their occupations just to understand their misstep later, in light of the fact that they are in a race to profit quick and when they fizzle, they stop. Accordingly, they lose their occupation, too their web journal.

In this way, its generally smarter to work low maintenance furthermore to begin your web journals on a free stage and weigh out first and foremost, whether blogging is the heading you need to take to gain cash, then move further to a paid stage and quit your occupation once you see a few returns nearing.

    Regards,
    Vinay Kumar
